Hope

Where does your hope come from? I can't help but ask after watching the evening news.

"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you..." ~Ephesians 1:18 NIV

Today's news is more of the same. More COVID, more hurt, more politics. The negative pervades. The despair looms large. Each story some odd version of the one before it - and if you allow yourself to be sucked in you too will feel the weight of a world you and I were never meant to carry.

So many have high hopes for 2021. That hope comes in the form of a new year, a new president, a new vaccine. Is this hope misplaced? We could debate that notion I am sure. But, it doesn't matter. Because what I want to share with you tonight is that there is hope in a suffering world that is not dependent on time, other people, nor is manmade. The hope that I have and I hope you have is found in no other than Jesus himself. The only saving grace we have no matter the the day or hour.

John chapter 14 tells us to not let our hearts be troubled. This chapter is packed full of promises from Jesus. He tells us that the plan for salvation is simple. All we have to do is believe in Him and that one day soon He will return for us. It's that simple. The plan of salvation is right there in just a few words and all we have to do is accept this amazing gift. It's where we place our HOPE. It's where we find peace and strength and ultimately the well of joy.

And my wish tonight is that this message of true Hope - finds its way to a heart that is hurting. A heart that is scared and a heart that is crying out for truth. A heart that desperately needs to feel love.
